This summer, Joanna Piotrowska's unseeing eyes, restless bodies, opens at the Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania (ICA). Piotrowska's work blurs the lines between performance and photography, using family archives, self-defense manuals, and psychotherapeutic methods to stage intimate, ambiguous scenes that evoke both familiarity and discomfort.

Her exploration of behavioral roles and tensions within everyday relationships reveals moments of care interwoven with undercurrents of violence, control, and self-protection. She pushes the limits of photography into the realm of theater, achieving a multidimensional effect that delves into the subconscious.
