Esao Andrews shares relics of an imagined world in his newest body of work, Beetle Shell. The title refers to a scarab beetle’s shell as both a piece of jewelry and as a pinned specimen on display, and throughout these paintings, the thought about scale and placement in life is explored. Clusters of entangled beings gather like barnacles, both thriving and fighting amongst each other, and upon closer look, evidence of a more quiet and quaint life exists underneath all the chaos. —Evan Pricco

Beetle Shell will be on view at Thinkspace Projects from May 4—25, 2024.
