It's been a while since we caught up with former Juxtapoz cover artist Aryz, who has steadily continued his versatile practice, switching from walls to the studio while creating a new limited edition print. He's had a busy Spring, painting murals across three continents, taking residency in Paris, and partnering with curator Nicolas Couturieux. Each project so far builds toward two solo shows the Catalan artist has planned in France for the end of Summer, and it's only getting started.

Back in March, he painted a striking mural in Tokyo, Japan, where he battled the unfriendly, corrugated surface of an unusually big structure, for Japanese standards anyway. Continuing his efforts to create large murals that capture the spontaneity and imperfection of drawings on paper, he painted another mural using similar aesthetics in Primm, Nevada. Finally, he wrapped up another piece with the same aesthetic, this time in Angers, France. "I've always been interested in anatomy and motion, and I guess this is reflected in my work, but I don’t really want to get stuck painting a human figure. In the end, for me, human figures are an excuse to create shapes and use different colors."

In between projects, Aryz managed to find time to visit Idem Studio in Paris, where he's working on an upcoming piece Antagonisme, a limited edition lithograph that will be released on June 20th via Walter Editions. "I've always had admiration for old posters, and litho is such an incredible technique to work with."

Antagonisme marks the beginning of Aryz's French residency that will carry through December 2019, as well as his collaboration with curator and agent Nicolas Couturieux. "There will be two exhibitions for sure, one in Rouen in September and another in Paris in November. There are other things happening that are not 100% confirmed. I’m trying to work little by little to get things done as I want them to be."

We'll keep in touch with Aryz about these updates, so be on the lookout for all things Aryz.
