EDJI Gallery is pleased to present a duo exhibition, in collaboration with Ballon Rouge Gallery, bringing together new series of paintings and drawings by Morteza Khakshoor and Sofia Pashaei

Titled in/between, the pairing of Khakshoor and Pashaei is as much about the contrast between their practices as it is about their points of connection. Liminal spaces are where both artists thrive. They zoom in and out of captured moments, fleeting relationships, and quiet scenes. Each creates intimate images that invite us to consider what came before and what might follow.

In this series, Khakshoor introduces female figures into his pictorial universe, expanding the emotional register of his psychologically charged scenes. Domestic interiors, uncanny landscapes, and moments of stillness reveal layered narratives and unresolved tension, drawing from his background in sculpture and printmaking, and influences from cinema, photojournalism and literature.

In contrast, Pashaei turns her focus inward, portraying sisterhood as refuge. Her close-cropped compositions explore the architecture of care: women leaning into one another, gestures that blur the line between support and symbiosis. Through soft forms and compressed space, she creates a visual language of tenderness and strength.

Khakshoor and Pashaei are world builders, working with allegory, narrative, composition, and context. Their worlds are distinct, yet in and between them lie many shared stories.
