It's becoming a summer tradition now... just as we enter the latter part of June, the CAN Art Fair emerges and gives us quite a significant look into what the rest of the year is going to shape up like. The Fair has acted as a melting, meeting and perspective of a growing undercurrent of emerging contemporary art, what we like to think of as a bluring of high and low into something completely new. Which, really, is the now.
Though the fair, and for the most part the movement as a whole is connected to painting, this year's CAN is about expansion. "For a fair where painting is so important, we present a wide selection of artists who do not work in this format’, explains Saša Bogojev, curator of the fair. Among the creators who work beyond the canvas, Bogojev highlights ‘the textiles and installations of Delphine Dénéréaz, the ceramics of Line Munch, the posthumanoid sculptures of Dimitris Tampakis, the installations and video of Shuyi Cao."
"CAN is a meeting point to soak up contemporary art, but also to enjoy the sea and the sun of Ibiza. It brings together the best of both worlds," says Sergio Sancho, founder and director of the fair. "We are very proud that those who have already participated want to join the CAN Art Fair adventure again. In addition, we believe that this year's additions help us to reinforce our international focus and make clear our inclination towards the local."
