Fresh off just opening a pop-up shop with BEAMS in Harajuku, Barry McGee continues a mini Tokyo takeover with a solo show at Perrotin entitled, Potato Sack Body. This is McGee's second show with Perrotin after his blockbuster The Other Side exhibition at the Hong Kong space.

As always, McGee uses both signature figurative elements and his abstract pattern making to create a maze-like interpretation of urban and folk culture, from graffiti and zine-making to surf and fine art. That has always been the fascinating trait of McGee's oeuvre, a combination of raw and refined and ability to take the energy of vandalism and DIY culture and capture that exuberance in a gallery setting.

Special highlights for Potato Sack Body include:
In the spirit of McGee’s emphasis on community and engagement, Perrotin’s newly launched project space will be transformed into a special interactive installation room over the course of the exhibition. Designed as a “Relax & Rejuvenation Room,” 106RRR showcases the artist’s diverse visual lexicon as it intersects with Japanese aesthetics, offering visitors a unique immersion into the artist’s relationship with Japan.

Additionally, the release of McGee’s new zine completes the show’s offerings. A collection of personal photography, prints, and drawings, the zine sheds light on the artist’s unique worldview and fascinations.
