We are so happy that our friends and past collaborators in Mexico City have opened Memories of the Underground at their MAIA, CDMX space that celebrates a major turning point in their history as well as street and emerging art as well. In that 2005—2010 window, so much happened to bring new artists to the forefront of contemporary art, whether David Choe, Herbert Baglione, SANER, Miss Van, and the MAIA team were right there bringing Mexico City into the conversation. We invite you to embark on a journey through time with us as we present this collection—a treasure trove of memories from past decades when street art and underground fine art were at their peak.
This exhibition celebrates the deep connection between our personal narratives and the art we have cherished during different moments in our lives.
"Memories of the Underworld" explores our roots in the art world. When Elaboratorio, an art house in Condesa, and then FIFTY24MX, our first gallery, unexpectedly emerged in 2009, and evolved into a platform where many internationally recognized street artists and talented local creators would shine.
We shared countless encounters, travels, parties, projects and adventures, fostering some long-lasting partnerships along the way.
Little did we know that Art would become our true purpose (boat sail). Through every artwork we displayed over the past two decades, we have been witnesses to our journey.
Like the first artwork in this show, we began walking in the dark, with the ingenuity of kids who had no idea where they were headed, encountering many energies along the way. Walking among the shadows we ultimately discovered that behind our masks lied the Mistery.
And then Art came to meet us.
