Momentum has been building over the past few months, and joining what has become a major campaign to “get out the vote” in the coming election, David Zwirner has teamed with the Biden Victory Fund to host a blockbuster online benefit, Artists For Biden. Sales from the works will go to a "verified fundraising initiative to mobilize essential resources to help Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Democrats nationwide to win the 2020 elections." Essentially, this is more than a presidential fundraiser, it’s a catalyst to boost candidates in races throughout the country as we approach November 3rd.

The line-up of both artists and galleries reads like a mini blue-chip fair onto itself: Zwirner, Gagosian, Paula Cooper, KAWS, Jenny Holzer, Shepard Fairey, Wangechi Mutu and Cecily Brown, to just name a few. Although many may have reservations about the power structures and wealth inherent in the very high echelons of the art world, this is not the time for hesitation. We have learned that nothing can be taken for granted, and in considering what is at stake, each Democractic race must receive support. This money will help shape the way local governments work with citizens, the way court appointments are made in service to the community, and ways the legal system can be improved, all to create a more inclusive inclusive democracy.

We believe strongly in the power of action and full participation. We are an independently owned art magazine, conceived to present the voices of all artists and makers. We’re not here to tell you how to cast your vote, but we are here to encourage you to be involved and understand your rights and your power as a voter. And we believe strongly that creatives, whether fine artists, designers,or musicians, each have an obligation to lend their work and talent to causes that affect so many people in this country. This is one project by one group of artists, and while there are so many causes and benefits to support right now, we seek to lend our voice in solidarity with these artists and galleries. We’re not here to tell you who to vote for, but to encourage positive and meaningful support.  Artists for Biden is one such way.

The following passage was written at the conclusion of our new Fall 2020 Quarterly, and it rings true now: “We often wonder if the things we consciously choose to express, whether a piece of art or even an offhand but passionate comment on Instagram, makes a difference. Will it sway an opinion? Will it spark a deeper philosophical and ethical debate in the mind of a passerby? If this summer taught us anything, it is that change often needs to be willed by the people, that the collective power of hope and progress, understanding and decency, is a moral obligation. The next act of togetherness is to simply get out and vote like your life depends on it.”

The Biden Victory Fund is a joint fundraising effort by the Biden campaign, the Democratic National Committee, and forty-seven state Democratic parties. The Biden Victory Fund’s goal is to ensure that Joe Biden is in the best possible position to beat Donald Trump. Contributing to the fund is the most impactful action you can take to support Vice President Biden and Senator Kamala Harris.
