As we begin to close out 2024, we are looking back on some classic short films to watch over the holidays. Today, we take a look at the 1967 Polish animation by Mirosław Kijowicz, "Klatki."
From the wonderful people at Culture,pl, "In most of his films, Mirosław Kijowicz was interested in an issue that was important for many artists, although nowadays it has a different dimension: the issue of the individual's relationship to the system. How does an enslaved person behave? How does he maintain his dignity? In Klatki, this problem is presented in a simple way - we watch the story of the relationship between the guard and the prisoner.
"There are basically three sequences in the film - the first is a creative protest, the second - an intellectual protest, the third - a biological protest," said the director. An additional advantage of the film is the music by Krzysztof Komeda, who often collaborated with Kijowicz."
